With a pair of top ten
finishes to start the year at Brockville, and a 14th place finish in
the Mr. DIRTcar 358 Series race at Cornwall last week, Kyle Dingwall was
looking to improve on that when he returned to the track this past
weekend. Once again, Brockville and
Cornwall would be his destination of choice.
At Brockville Speedway on
Saturday night, Dingwall started his eight lap qualifying heat race from fourth
place, but struggled early, and crossed the finish line with a fifth place
result. After making some adjustments
to the car before the 30 lap main event, Dingwall started from seventh place,
and it was quickly determined that the changes were just what the car
needed. The first caution of the night
came on lap six when the leader spun off turn four. Dingwall, who had already moved into second inherited the
lead. On the restart, Dingwall
continued to set the pace. With 10 laps
remaining, he was locked into a battle for the top spot, and when the final
caution of the evening came on lap 22, it set up an eight lap duel to the
finish. On the ensuing restart,
Dingwall would regain battle side by side for the lead, falling to second as
they completed lap 24, but still a strong run, making his third consecutive top
ten finish to start the season at Brockville.
Dingwall was back in action
on Sunday at Cornwall Speedway. As a
former champion at the track in 2009, he always enjoys competing at the fast
quarter mile. In his qualifying heat,
he would start from the sixth position and work his way up to fourth. The team made some quick adjustment to get
the car dialed in for the 30 lap feature. Starting from eighth place, Dingwall worked his way forward, and
when the first yellow was displayed at lap nine, he was up to sixth. As the race approached halfway, Dingwall now
positioned himself in fourth place, looking to chase down the lead group. In the final 15 laps, Dingwall advanced to
second and ended the weekend with a pair of runner up finishes.
