Kyle Dingwall Scores Second Consecutive Top Ten Finish in Mr. DIRTcar 358 Modified Series; Super DIRT Week is Next for Dingwall Motorsports

After grabbing a 10th place finish last weekend at Mohawk International Raceway, Kyle Dingwall was looking forward to racing the next round of the Mr. DIRTcar 358 Modified Series as they made their inaugural appearance at Brighton Speedway during the track’s annual Applefest Weekend.  Although the 358 Modified division only races at the track once a year, Dingwall is very comfortable at the track, being one of only a handful of past winners at the track that entered this years race.  Dingwall won at Brighton in the very first Applefest Shootout back in September of 2005.

Dingwall began the night with a fifth place time trial speed in his group, placing him fifth to start his qualifying heat race.  Dingwall maintained that position throughout the race.  In the Benson’s Auto Parts 100 lap Applefest Shootout 358 Modified Mr. DIRTcar Series race, Dingwall started from the 15th position.  Avoiding a lap one crash, Dingwall patiently waited to make his move towards the front of the pack.  By lap 85 he was inside the top 10, and when the final caution on the night came two laps later, he had moved to ninth. When the race resumed Dingwall was able to pick up one more spot to finish with a strong eighth place result.

Dingwall will have the weekend off this week, and return to action next week as the Mr. DIRTcar 358 Modified Series races at Cayuga County Fair Speedway on Wednesday, October 3rd and Rolling Wheels Raceway Park on Thursday, October 4th during Super DIRT Week.  The 2012 season will conclude at Brockville Speedway during the 1000 Islands RV DIRTcar Northeast Fall Nationals on October 13th and 14th.

Kyle Dingwall Gets Top 10 Finish in Mr. DIRTcar 358 Series Race at Mohawk International Raceway; Brighton Speedway Coming up Next

After a fantastic 2012 racing at Brockville Speedway and Cornwall Speedway weekly, Kyle Dingwall was looking forward to doing some traveling now that the regular season is over and he accomplished his goal of winning the 2012 Brockville Speedway track championship.  The first stop was Mohawk International Raceway on Saturday night for their 358 Modified Mr. DIRTcar Series race.

Kyle struggled in time trials, and finished his heat race in seventh place, putting him into the last change B-Main.  A fourth place finish put him into the race, but he would start from the rear of the 30 car field.  The dry slick track conditions made it tough to pass, but Dingwall patiently moved forward throughout the 75 lap race, and when the checkered flag flew, he was inside the top 10.

“It was a tough race, with no grip at all on the track”, says Dingwall.  “We saved our tires as much as possible and came home with at top ten finish”.

This coming weekend, Dingwall will be back in action at Brighton Speedway for their annual Applefest Weekend.  This year, the race is a 358 Modified Series race, and Kyle is looking forward to running with the Series again this week.

After Brighton, Kyle will have a week off, before heading to Syracuse to run the Super DIRT Week Satellite shows at Cayuga County Speedway and Rolling Wheels Raceway.  He will end the 2012 season at Brockville Speedway for the 1000 Islands RV DIRTcar Northeast Fall Nationals on October 13th and 14th.

Kyle Dingwall Crowned Brockville Speedway Track Champion After Second Place Finish at Brockville Speedway on Saturday Night

After a couple of really frustrating seasons for Kyle Dingwall, he has rebounded in a big way in 2012.  Entering the final night of the regular season at both Brockville and Cornwall Speedway, Dingwall had already captured two feature wins (at Brockville), and regardless of the outcome he would finish the year in the top five in points at both weekly tracks.  At Brockville, he entered the night with an eight point deficit, and was looking forward to the opportunity to race for his first ever BOS Speedway Modified title.

With a third place finish in his qualifying heat race at Brockville, Kyle trimmed a single point of his deficit, with the other championship contender finishing third in the next heat, the difference remained the same, and he would have to make up eight points in the battle for the championship going into the 30 lap main event.  Kyle lined up from the seventh position to start the feature, and quickly moved up through the field.  By lap ten, Kyle was up to third place, and while he was focused on his position on the track, he couldn’t help but wonder where the point leader was on the track.  When the race hit the halfway point, Dingwall was now up to second place, gaining four points as he battled his way towards the championship.  When the race ended, the suspense was building as Kyle wondered if his second place finish was enough to earn him the championship, and when the final totals were calculated, Kyle was the champion by just two points.

“The suspense at the end of the race waiting to hear if we won it or night was crazy”, admits Dingwall.  “I was trying to make the calculations, and I was looking at the scoreboard to make sure the 7 car wasn’t in the top five.  We really had a great season, and I have to thank everyone that has helped us along the way, all of our sponsors and the race fans that support us each week”.

With his first Brockville Speedway Modified championship secure, Dingwall began to prepare for Sunday night’s race at Cornwall Speedway.  It was a 125 lap 358 Modified DIRTcar Series/Canadian Nationals Series main event.  He qualified third fastest in his group in time trials, placing him on the inside of the second row for his heat race.  A second place finish put him into the redraw for a top 12 starting spot in the big race.  He selected position number two, and would fire from the outside of the front row.  After jumping out to the early lead, Kyle would fall to second on a lap 15 restart.  He would remain in the top five for most of the first segment, and when the race was stopped at lap 75 for the competition caution he was running strong inside the top five.  When the race resumed Kyle continued to battle amongst the top five, running in the fifth position as the race hit lap 100.  Just a few laps later, Dingwall moved his car off the racing surface and out of harm’s way when the drive shaft broke.

“We were having a really good run tonight, but the drive shaft broke just after the lap 100 mark”, says Dingwall after the race.  “It would have been great to finish out the season here at Cornwall on a better note, but overall we have had a great year, and we look forward to running some different tracks throughout the fall”.

Dingwall will have this weekend off, and will return to action on Saturday, September 15th with the Mr. DIRTcar 358 Modified Series at Mohawk Raceway.  The following weekend he will be at Brighton Speedway, and then on to the Cayuga County Fair Speedway in Weedsport, New York on Wednesday, October 3rd.  He will close out the 2012 season at Brockville Speedway on Saturday, October 13th with the 1000 Islands RV Centre DIRTcar Northeast Fall Nationals.
